I spent my first ten years in art almost entirely focussed on drawing in a classic or impressionistic kind of style.

But  my interest in Mandala art as a form of meditation has definitely been key to informing some of my abstract pieces here. And, at the same time, I have always wanted my art to be more than just repeating traditions or walking well trodden paths.

So, the drawings in this section are perhaps a little more experimental than the others - but I do hope there will be more additions to this series to come.

Circles

In ancient Greece, there was a painter called Apelles who was said to be so talented that he could draw a perfect circle entirely freehand. And throughout Art history, there have been similar legends about the likes of Giotto, Leonardo da Vinci, Rembradnt and many others.
So, to some extent, this Circle series is in homage to that - exploring the idea of drawing thousands of imperfect circles as a way of creating some sense of overall "perfection".

But in many ways, the circle series goes far beyond this art historical influence too.

Inspired by my love of Mandala art as a meditative tool various spiritual traditions across the world - these one of a kind pieces are my way of creating a kind of free flowing / organic kind of Manadala. representing how all of life itself is in a constant state of flux.

Some are intended to represent a map of the heavens above us, with galazies stars and planets.
Others are more to do with the microscopic world of dancing molecules and chemicals.
And many are also about the nature of the human mind too - where every circle represents an independant thoughts or idea in our collective consciousness.

But as with all abstract artworks - it is up to each viewer to learn for themselves what can be discovered in these swirling circles.

(Note: All these work are entirely hand drawn - with each circle painstakingly drawn by hand. Hence, they can take quite a long time to make - especially at large scale.  But if you would like to commission your own version, please do get in touch as these truly are impossible to replicate)
