George Bothamley

Cities and architecture were my first love in drawing.
Literally, the first task I ever set myself when first learning to draw was to trace a picture of the Eiffel tower in Paris. And when that idea resulted in a spectacular failure, it led me to making a second attempt entirely free hand; which proved surprisingly easier.
From that point on, I became completely obsessed with freehand drawing - preferring to use pure pen and ink rather than pencils and erasers as I liked the added degree of focus needed to try and create a picture without making any errors.
And after four months of pretty obsessive drawing, I created my first really detailed cityscape with the St Paul's cathedral picture above, which I completed at 18 years old.
_
In the years since then, my styles and subjects for drawing have extended a lot, and I don't draw cityscapes quite as much now as I used to. But still, they will always be a special subject for me - and something that I hope to return to much mroe frequently in the future.
